Christof Wisse MSc
Psychotherapist in training
Originally from the Netherlands, I have spent more than half of my adult life living, working and travelling in different countries. These experiences have shaped both who I am and my interest in how we find our way through relationships, change, identity and the challenges we encounter throughout life.
Living abroad for many years has also given me a close familiarity with different cultures and with the experience of building a life away from where you grew up. I speak Dutch, English and Danish fluently. I also have extensive experience speaking German and French, and I am currently learning Spanish.
My approach to therapy is warm, curious and non-judgemental. My starting point is your individual experience and how you relate to yourself, others and the world around you. Together, we can explore both what is difficult and what may help create greater awareness, choice and movement.
Exploring what is – and what could be
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be going through a difficult period, struggling with emotions or relationships, finding yourself caught in patterns that keep repeating, or simply feeling that something in your life is not quite right.
Living abroad can add another layer. Building a life in a different country can be enriching, but it can also bring experiences of uncertainty, loneliness or not quite belonging. Relationships may change, familiar points of reference can disappear, and questions about identity, home and where you belong may become more present.
At other times, therapy can simply be a place to become more curious about yourself, how you relate to others, and how you want to live your life.
How I work
Therapy with me is a collaborative process. We begin with what matters to you and pay attention to how you experience it – not only to what you think about a situation, but also to the emotions, reactions and patterns that may emerge along the way.
Sometimes this means slowing down and staying with an experience long enough to understand it more fully. We may explore emotions that are difficult to make sense of, recurring ways of responding to yourself or others, or the tension between different needs and wishes.
My approach is experiential and emotion-focused, drawing particularly on Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). I pay attention to how you experience yourself and your situation – not only to what you think about it, but also to the emotions, bodily responses and patterns that emerge along the way. This means that we approach your experience with curiosity, without assuming in advance what it means or what it should be.
Together, we can make room for both what is difficult and what may open up new possibilities. The aim is to help you understand yourself more clearly, develop greater awareness and flexibility, and create more room for how you want to live and relate to others.
